Three family favourites, from a walk along the beach to half an hour up or down the coast.
Splash Water World is on Amanzimtoti's main beach, so you can walk there. uShaka Marine World in Durban has the aquarium and a water park, and Crocworld near Scottburgh has crocodile feeds, birds and a play area.
Each is a different kind of day. Splash Water World is a few hours of slides with the beach next door; uShaka fills a whole day, so leave early and take the N2 north before the traffic. Crocworld is a relaxed half-day that pairs well with lunch in Scottburgh or a round of golf for whoever would rather not watch the crocodiles.
In the school holidays all three are busy, so go early. Prices change each season; each page links to the place's own website for the latest rates and hours. Back at the chalets, the children have the garden and the beach, and you have the braai.
